The Sox have had their struggles against the best team in the PCL this year. After losing on a walk-off two-run home run last night, the River Cats have now won 10-of-11 games against the Sox while outscoring them 82-44. Jai Miller has particularly enjoyed facing the Sox posting an average of .290 (9-for-31) with three home runs, 12 runs scored and 11 RBI. Sacramento has been one of the best teams in the PCL this season posting a league-best run differential of +115. Entering tonight’s game they have the best record in the PCL at 67-43.
In case you’ve been living underground for the past few days, the Rockies traded struggling ace Ubaldo Jimenez to the Cleveland Indians for pitchers Drew Pomeranz, Alex White and Joe Gardner.
Pomeranz appears to be the key to the trade for the Rockies despite the fact that he won’t be able to join the organization officially until mid-August. The big lefty is six-foot-five and is said to throw in the mid-90′s. He’s only made three appearances at the Double-A level with the Indians so he will likely spend the rest of the year with Double-A Tulsa when he joins the organization.
White made his big-league debut with the Indians earlier this season before being put on the disabled list due to an injury to his finger. He is scheduled to join the Rockies after making a few rehab appearances.
Gardner has pitched predominantly at the Double-A level this season and is unlikely to appear with the Sox this season.
The big question will be whether the Rockies decide to take it slow with Pomeranz or fast track him to the big-leagues early next season like they did with Juan Nicasio this year.
