K-BRERA: Sky Sox left-hander Edwar Cabrera, in his Triple-A debut, struck out 13 in his 6.2 innings of work which is tied for the second most strikeouts by a Sox pitcher in a game in team history and one strikeout away from the team record. The most strikeouts by a Sox pitcher occurred on May 5th, 1997, when John Thomson struck out 14 batters in 7 innings pitched at Tucson. Cabrera tied the mark for second place held by Mark Brownson, who struck out 13 batters in a complete game win at New Orleans on May 11th, 1999.
McBRIDE TO REPLACE BROWN ON PCL ALL-STAR TEAM: Sky Sox outfielder Andrew Brown was named to the PCL Midseason All-Star team for a second straight year (last year while with Memphis), as he leads the Sky Sox in home runs (13), RBI (68), runs (56) and total bases (156). Since the beginning of May, Brown leads all of Triple-A with 61 RBI, and has totaled the most extra-base hits (36) in the same time frame, while also leading the Sox with 70 hits since May 1st. Due to personal reasons Brown will not be participating in the All-Star Game and Sky Sox utility player Matt McBride, who leads the team in batting average (.341, sixth best average in the PCL) and hits (88), will replace Brown as the lone Colorado Springs representative at the Triple-A All-Star game in Buffalo, NY.
SOX AND STRIKEOUTS: Three Sky Sox pitchers (Edwar Cabrera, Joe Torres, Carlos Torres) combined to total 17 strikeouts in last night’s win, the most strikeouts any team in the Pacific Coast League has totaled this season in one game. With Sacramento matching their season high of 13 strikeouts last night, the Sox narrowly overtook the River Cats for most team strikeouts in the PCL this season at 670 with Sacramento totaling 669 for the year.
WHEELER’S HOMECOMING: Sox outfielder Tim Wheeler smacked his first homer this season while also notching his second straight multi-RBI game in last night’s win, his first back-to-back multi-RBI games in 2012. A Sacramento native that was drafted out of Sacramento State University, Wheeler leads the Sox with 5 RBI in the series. Wheeler missed the first trip to Sacramento earlier this season due to a hand injury.
BROWN ON BASE: Sox slugger Andrew Brown is currently riding a 22-game on-base streak, tied for the second longest active streak in the league with Las Vegas’ Jonathan Diaz behind New Orleans’ Mike Cervanek’s 25-game streak. The longest on-base streak this season by a Sky Sox player is 23 games set by outfielder Tim Wheeler.
