The Sky Sox and Express brought the lumber to the tune of 21 runs and 30 hits in the first game of the series last night at Security Service Field. The Sky Sox fell behind 7-0 after two innings, but bounced back to score 10 runs over innings 3-7 and took a brief 10-9 lead. The Express managed another two runs, one in the 8th and one in the 9th and won the opener 11-10. Tonight is round two for the Sox and Express, with Taylor Jungmann making his return to The Springs for the first time since early 2015.

Sky Sox Pitcher: RHP Taylor Jungmann returns to Colorado Springs for the first time since June 2, 2015 and gets the start tonight against the Express. The righty made five starts with the Brewers this season and went 0-4 with a 9.15 ERA allowing 22 runs, 21 earned, on 27 hits, 13 walks and 13 strikeouts. Opponents in MLB hit .325 against the Texas native. Prior to his June call up, Jungmann went 2-3 with a 6.37 ERA in 11 games (9 starts) with the Sox. In the bigs he’s 9-12 with a 4.56 ERA and 35-29 with a 4.10 ERA in the 91 minor-league appearances.
Last Time Out: 4/28/16 at Chicago (NL) – Jungmann lasted 3 2/3 innings and gave up 5 runs on 6 hits, 1 home run 3 walks and 2 strikeouts against the potent Cubs lineup. The best start of his season came against the Giants at Miller Park on April 6 where he went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs (1 earned), on 3 hits, 2 walks and 1 strikeout.

Express Pitcher: RHP Nick Martinez gets hit fourth start of the season with Round Rock and fourth appearance overall as he made a spot appearance in the Rangers’ bullpen on April 23. In three PCL starts he’s 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA allowing 7 runs, on 16 hits, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. His lone win came against the Omaha Storm Chasers on April 12 at Werner Park where he gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. Opponents in the PCL are hitting .276 against the righty who was selected in the 18th round of the 2011 draft out of Fordham.
Last Time Out: 4/28/16 vs. Nashville – Martinez went took the loss and lasted just four innings against the Sounds. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, hit a batter and struck out three. He tossed a season-low 64 pitches, 45 of which were strikes.
