Colorado Springs picked up the 9-5 victory of the New Orleans Zephyrs yesterday thanks in large part to the bearded one, Tim Dillard. Dillard earned the win with three strong innings on the mound and chipped in offensively with a two-run home run in the fifth. Andy Wilkins and Keon Broxton also left the yard in the victory. The three home runs in one game are a rarity, let alone a rarity at Zephyr Field which was deemed the toughest park in the PCL to get one out of according to MiLB’s Park Factors in 2014. The Sky Sox’s 9-5 win was their 7th on the road.
Before we dive into tonight’s pitching matchup the Brewers and Sky Sox announced a few roster moves today:
ADD: C Adam Weisenburger activated from the disabled list
DEL: OF Michael Reed placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 11
Tonight, the Sky Sox continue a four-game set with the Zephyrs in the Big Easy. RHP Tyler Cravy gets the start for the Sky Sox and will make his third appearance in a Sky Sox uniform this season due to two stints with the Brewers. LHP Chris Reed is slated to throw for New Orleans in his first Triple-A start of 2016 after he made 4 appearances (2 starts) with Double-A Jacksonville. It will be the second left-handed starter that Colorado Springs will see in a row.
Colorado Springs Sky Sox (13-18) at New Orleans Zephyrs (15-17) – 6:00 p.m. – Zephyr Field – Metairie, Louisiana
Pitching Matchup: RHP Tyler Cravy (0-0, 3.18) at LHP Chris Reed (1-0, 3.07 in 4 AA games)
Sky Sox Pitcher: RHP Tyler Cravy gets the start tonight against the Zephyrs in the Big Easy and is set to make just his third appearance with the Sky Sox due to two stints with the Brewers in the bigs. Cravy is 0-0 with a 3.18 ERA in the two appearances and has allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. In six appearances (1 start) with the Brewers, Cravy is 0-1 with a 6.52 ERA allowing 7 runs on 14 hits, 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. The righty is still hunting for his first MLB victory as he is 0-9 through his first 20 big-league games. He last pitched for the Sky Sox in Iowa on May 1 and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits 1 walk and 6 strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. In 20 Triple-A appearances (19 starts) Cravy is 7-7 with a 3.88 ERA, all but one of those outings have come in a Sky Sox uniform.
Last Time Out: 5/6/16 at Cincinnati – Cravy got the spot start for the Brewers at GReat American Ballpark in place of Wily Peralta who went on the paternity list. The Reds got to the righty early to the tune of 5 runs on 6 hits, including two homers, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips took him deep in the 4th. Cravy took the loss for the Brewers in the 5-1 affair. He threw 82 pitches, 49 for strikes.
2016 Game Log:
Zephyrs Pitcher: LHP Chris Reed toes the slab for Arnie Beyeler’s Zephyrs in his first Triple-A start of the season. Reed made four appearances with the Jacksonville Suns in the Southern League and compiled a 1-0 record with a 3.07 ERA allowing 5 runs on 12 hits 7 free passes and 11 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. His lone win of the season came against the Jackson Generals on May 7th. Reed was born in London, England and drafted by the Dodgers out of Stanford in the 1st round of the 2011 draft. Reed pitched in two games for the Dodgers last year and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits in 4-innings of work. The southpaw was DFA’d by the Dodgers and picked up by the Marlins in July 2015. Between Oklahoma City and New Orleans Reed made 22 appearances out of the bullpen in the PCL last year and went 1-0. Reed features a 4FB, sinker, slider and change-up.
Last Time Out: 5/7/2016 at Jackson – Reed earned the first win of his 2016 campaign against the Mariners affiliate in the Souther League with 6-solid innings of work. The lefty gave up 3 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts on 78 pitches, 49 of which went for strikes. It was just the second start of his season.
