Sox Scribbles: Sky Sox Search For Complete Game Tonight In Memphis

AutoZone Park is the home of the Memphis Redbirds and will play host to game two of the four-game series tonight in the Bluff City. (Allison Rhodes/Memphis Redbirds)

The Sky Sox dropped the heartbreaker of all heartbreakers 8-5 to the Redbirds in the series opener last night at AutoZone Park. Trailing 2-1 in the top of the ninth, Andy Wilkins stepped in with the bases loaded and one out and crushed a grand slam to right which turned the game around in a blink. Leading 5-2, it was Damien Magnifico’s job to get the final three outs of the game, however three straight singles, a hit batter and a walk later the game was 5-4 with the bases loaded and no outs. Jaye Chapman came on to try and preserve the lead, but Kolten Wong ended the game like he began it, with a home run. His solo shot opened the scoring against Tyler Cravy in the first and his grand slam ended the game against Chapman in the ninth. It marks the second time the Sox have fallen courtesy of a walk-off grand slam this season.

Tonight the Sky Sox hunt for their first win of the series and the second of the road trip as they square off against the Redbirds at 6:05 p.m. from AutoZone Park. Taylor Jungmann gets the nod for Colorado Springs and takes his 1-3 record and 9.57 ERA to AZP for the first time this season. Arturo Reyes will climb the hill for Memphis and face the Sky Sox for the first time with his 5-3 record and 4.10 ERA. The Sky Sox are 13-18 away from Security Service Field and look to improve on the poor first half of this road trip. The Sox and ‘Birds have squared off seven times in 2016 with the Redbirds winning four of the seven tilts. All time, the Colorado Springs is 69-81 against Memphis and 29-47 at the home of the Redbirds.
