The Sky Sox and Sounds played a midweek matinee yesterday which ended 2-0 in favor of the home team. Colorado Springs has now played in 11 shutouts this season, and has been on the wrong side of 10 of them. Raul Alcantara climbed the hill against the Sky Sox and silenced them over the first seven innings before handing it over to the bullpen. On the other side of the bump, it was Aaron Wilkerson dealing for the Sky Sox. Wilkerson didn’t get any run support, and worked into the seventh inning himself before being lifted. The righty gave up a run in the fourth and a run in the seventh and locked down his first quality start with Colorado Springs. The Sox couldn’t get on the board, banged out seven hits, and recorded one multi-hit game from Kyle Wren.
This evening, the Sky Sox and Sounds get ready for the third game of a four game series at First Tennessee Park, the final series between the two in Tennessee here in 2016. The Sky Sox saw their five-game winning streak come to a close with the 2-0 loss yesterday afternoon. They enter play three games under .500 at 49-52 and still in second place 9.5 games in back of the Oklahoma City Dodgers. In hopes of getting back its winning ways, Colorado Springs will send lefty Brent Suter to the hill against Nashville’s righty Chris Smith. Suter has been outstanding this season and enters play 4-4 with a 3.63 ERA, while Smith holds a 5-8 record and 4.25 ERA in his time with the Sounds. In 2016 the Sky Sox are 5-5 against the Sounds, they hold an all-time record of 73-83 against them and are 32-46 between them at First Tennessee Park.
