The Sky Sox had a shot to take the finale of the four-game series against the Sounds which would have split the season series 8-8, and given them a winning homestand at 5-3, but Nashville had other plans and spoiled the Saturday night tilt with a 5-2 win in 6 innings. Daniel Mengden continued his dominance in the PCL and held the Sox to two runs on five hits over five innings of work and improved to 5-1 with a 1.46 ERA with the win. Aaron Wilkerson held the Sounds to a run over the first three innings, but was tagged for a trio in the fifth and one more in the sixth before he departed. The Sox picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Michael Reed homer and a Kyle Wren RBI single. The loss ends the season series 9-7 in favor of the Sounds and the Sox finished 4-4 on the homestand, dropping 3 of 4 to Nashville after winning 3 of 4 over Oklahoma City.

Michael Reed deposited a solo home run off of the batter’s eye in center field to get the Sox on the board 1-0. It marked Reed’s 6th homer of the season and his second in three games.

Kyle Wren delivered an RBI single in the fifth inning which brought home the second and final run for the Sky Sox.

Yadiel Rivera singled and scored a run in the fifth inning.

Lewis Brinson extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single.

Garrett Cooper went 1-for-2 in the series finale.

Pitching Notes –

Aaron Wilkerson climbed the hill hunting for his third great start in a row and he did a serviceable job for the Sox, but took the loss and dropped to 1-4. He gave up all 12 hits to the Sounds, six of which went for two bases. He allowed five runs over 5 2/3 innings, didn’t walk anyone and struck out two. He tossed 86 pitches and 62 went for strikes.

Michael Kirkman came in to face the lefty Jaycob Brugman and walked him on four pitches.

Austin Ross recorded the final out of the top of the sixth by striking out Chad Pinder on three pitches.

Play of the Game –

Michael Reed’s solo homer in the fifth was the biggest and best play of the game for the Sky Sox. It came against Daniel Mengden and was the fourth homer allowed in 9 PCL starts with the Sounds for the righty and the second in three games for the outfielder.
