For most fans, Thursday, March 16, is just another Thursday–another day before the weekend officially kicks off. For some, it’s the anticipated build-up day before the St. Patrick’s Day festivities begin and last through the night (or the weekend).
For sports fans, particularly college basketball fans, this is a massive day circled in red on many calendars. Today marks the first day of the Round of 64 in the 2017 NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Championships…A.K.A. March Madness.

Tuesday and Wednesday saw four teams already eliminated during the First Four games in Dayton, Ohio. Thursday and Friday sees the field whittled down to 32 teams, which will then be trimmed down to 16 by the end of the weekend. The first game of the day comes from Buffalo, N.Y.

Some of the Brewers filled out brackets, so there’s a chance for some bragging rights if your bracket does better than one of the Brew Crew’s.

Important side note: today is also Michael Blazek’s birthday, so there’s reason for twice the celebration.

The good news continues for American baseball fans, as the United States used eighth-inning home runs from Adam Jones and Eric Hosmer to come from behind and jump out to 1-0 in Pool F play after a 4-2 win over Venezuela in San Diego Wednesday night. The Americans next face Puerto Rico, while the South Americans square off with the Dominican Republic.

Not all the news is celebratory, however.
Coming off their first tie of the Cactus League, the Milwaukee Brewers led a late-inning lead go by the wayside Wednesday in Scottsdale, as Cristhian Adames blasted a walk-off two-run home to give the Colorado Rockies a 5-4 win at Talking Stick.

The hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead after four innings, but the Crew came back to take the lead with three runs via a passed ball, a groundout and a wild pitch in the fifth inning. After the Rockies (10-8) scored single runs in consecutive frames to tie the game, Mauricio Dubon reached on an eighth-inning error, scoring Jesus Aguilar and giving Milwaukee (10-9-1) a 4-3 lead.
The Cactus Crew returns to the Maryvale Baseball Park for their second meeting with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Matt Garza gets the start for the Crew against Robbie Ray and the Snakes. First pitch from West Phoenix is at 2:05 p.m. MT.
