A Minute in Maryvale: 3.30.17

That’s all, folks!

The final pitch was thrown at the Maryvale Baseball Park Thursday afternoon and the Milwaukee Brewers packed up camp and are en route to Wisconsin. Sure, the minor leaguers still have a few more games left in Arizona, but the MLB squad have shipped off and have left the Valley of the Sun.

With a scheduled practice tonight in Milwaukee, the Brewers welcome the Chicago White Sox for a pair of exhibition games at Miller Park Friday and Saturday before the Colorado Rockies head north for Opening Day 2017 on Monday, April 3, at 12:10 p.m. MT. Junior Guerra gets the start against Colorado’s Jon Gray.

Meanwhile….we made the cover of Baseball America!

One guy who won’t have to worry about a spot on Milwaukee’s Opening Day roster is Hernan Perez, who played in 16 games for the Sox.

Also, Eric Thames may be appearing in blue and gold this season after his first Spring Training in quite some time.

There also was a game played Wednesday. In the Cactus League finale, Jesus Aguilar hit his seventh home run of the spring, but the Angels scored four runs in two separate innings to pull away with the 8-6 victory.

After falling behind 4-0 after one inning, the Cactus Crew cut into the lead, scoring three runs in the second and third innings combined. Keon Broxton and Aguilar drove in their lone runs of the game, and Travis Shaw singled in Thames to cut into the deficit.

The newly-acquired third baseman from Boston gave Milwaukee a lead with a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his fourth long ball in Arizona and his third RBI of the game.

After the second four-run frame for the visitors, Nate Orf singled in the sixth inning and a throwing error by second baseman Cody Ramer allowed Eric Sogard  to score Milwaukee’s sixth run of the game.

Be sure to follow Brewers’ Player Development (@BrewersPD) and our very own Dan Karcher (@SkySoxKarch) as Colorado Springs remains in Arizona through the end of the week.
