Outfielder Cole Garner is headed back to the disabled list for the second time this season the Sky Sox announced today. Garner re-aggravated an injury to his left hand during yesterday’s 14-4 loss to Reno while swinging the bat in the first inning. The hand has been an issue for Garner for much of the season.
The loss of Garner is a huge blow to a Sky Sox offense that has already absorbed the losses of outfielder Charlie Blackmon and Eric Young Jr. and infielder Chris Nelson to the Rockies. Josh Fields, who went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the loss last night, and Mike Jacobs will be relied upon to keep the offense churning in Garner’s absence.
Taking Garner’s spot on the active roster is utility man Mike Paulk who was activated from the disabled list today.
The Sky Sox are looking to take 3-of-4 from first place Reno today as Alan Johnson (1-3, 6.27) takes the hill against lefty Tom Layne (6-1, 4.62). The Sox are 13-8 overall and 6-3 at home against left-handed starters this sesaon.
