The Sky Sox won the final game of their four-game set with the Reno Aces Sunday afternoon 7-6 thanks to a five-run eighth inning.
With the Aces leading 6-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, they removed starter Tom Layne in favor of reliever Kam Mickolio. The Sky Sox had enjoyed little success against Layne as he allowed just two runs on three hits in 7.0 innings. Josh Fields would start the rally with an RBI double, as Mickolio struggled to find his command. A bases loaded walk to Brad Emaus and wild pitch would tie the game at six. Eliezer Alfonzo would give the Sox the lead with a sacrifice fly to center.
The win gave the Sox a series victory over the first-place Aces and moved them closer to the .500 mark on the season with a 30-34 record.
The Sox hit the road for a short four-game set with the Las Vegas 51s starting tonight at 8:05 PM MT. They will return home on the 17th for a four-game series with the Tucson Padres before heading out on a 12-game, 13-day road trip to Tacoma, Salt Lake City and back to Las Vegas.
