Chatwood strikes out 8 in rehab start; Rutledge homers in Sky Sox 4-1 win

In game one of a doubleheader in Round Rock, RHP Tyler Chatwood continued the strong Sky Sox pitching to start the season and led the Sox (4-1) to a 4-1 victory against the Express (2-3). The Sky Sox now have won four games in a row.

Chatwood was great in his return to the Sky Sox tossing 6.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits, fanning eight batters with no walks. His only blemishes were a solo-homer by C Brett Nicholas in the fifth inning, and a double by SS Andy Parrino in the fourth.

The Sky Sox got on the board in the second when LF Tim Wheeler hit a sharp single to right field that was deflected off 2B Brent Lillibridge to score 1B Ben Paulsen, who reached on a fielding error by Lillibridge.

Three batters later with the bases loaded, CF Jason Pridie grounded into a force out, but RF Kyle Parker was able to score to make the lead 2-0.

The Sox would tack on two more runs in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run shot to right field by 2B Josh Rutledge.

Nicholas’ solo-shot came in the bottom of the fifth to lead off the inning.

Chatwood made it into the seventh inning, but only recorded an out and surrendered a single, before RHP Chris Martin came in to close the door and pick up his second save of the season. Martin struck out both of the batters he faced.

RHP Justin Germano got the start for Round Rock and lasted four innings, giving up two runs on two hits, while punching out two batters.
