Colorado Springs wrapped up their 8-game homestand with a thrilling come-from-behind 7-3 victory over the OKC Dodgers Monday at Security Service Field. The Sox trailed 3-0 at the stretch, but exploded for 7-runs in the bottom of the 7th inning on 5 extra-base hits (4 2Bs, 1 HR) and held on late for the win. The four-run victory was the largest for the Sky Sox this season and the win was the 6th for COS when trailing after six innings, by far the most in the league.
Before we dive into tonight’s pitching matchup the Brewers and Sky Sox announced a few roster moves today:

C Parker Berberet promoted from Double-A Biloxi

Tonight, the Sky Sox open up a four-game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs at Zephyr Field with the first pitch coming at 5:00 p.m. Colorado Springs will send RHP Hiram Burgos to the hill with his 1-2 record and 6.20 ERA in search of his second win of the season, while the Marlins affiliate will counter with RHP Dylan Axelrod who will make his 5th appearance, 4th start and is 0-1 with a 7.43 ERA.

Pitching Matchup: RHP Hiram Burgos (1-2, 6.20) at RHP Dylan Axelrod (0-1, 7.43)
Sky Sox Pitcher: RHP Hiram Burgos has been one of the more consistent starters for the Sky Sox and makes his 6th appearance (5th start) of the season tonight in the Big Easy. In his last two starts, Burgos has combined to throw 9 1/3 innings and allowed two runs (one earned), on 7 hits, 8 walks, and 10 strikeouts. He remains the only starter for Colorado Springs to pick up a win this season. The starters for the Sky Sox have gone 1-9 with a 5.94 ERA through the first 29 games. Burgos is 1-2 with a 6.20 ERA in his five games allowing 16 runs (14 earned) on 25 hits, 12 walks, and 20 strikeouts. His one bad outing came in relief due to travel issues on 4/23 in Omaha where he he gave up 9 runs on 8 hits in 3.0 innings. Tonight will be his 137th minor-league appearance (115th start), he’s 38-39 with a 3.78 ERA throughout his MiLB career and 1-2 with a 6.44 ERA in 6 MLB games.
Last Time Out: 5/5/16 vs. Round Rock – Burgos couldn’t make it through the requisite five innings against the Express and gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. He threw 87 pitches, 52 for strikes and lowered his ERA to 6.21. The Sky Sox went on to win the game 6-4 with a three-run 8th inning.

Zephyrs Pitcher: RHP Dylan Axelrod takes his 0-1 record and 7.43 ERA to the hill tonight against the Sky Sox. Axelrod has allowed 12 runs (11 earned) on 18 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings. Opponents are hitting .340 against the righty who was drafted by the Padres in the 30th round of the 2007 draft out of UC Irvine. The righty pitched for the Reds last year and elected free agency following the 2015 season. The Marlins signed him to a minor-league contract and invited him to spring training in December. In 10 minor league seasons he is 45-36 with a 3.41 ERA in 211 appearances and 9-15 with a 5.27 ERA in 59 MLB games. He features a fastball, curveball, slider, and change.
Last Time Out: 5/5/2016 at Oklahoma City – Axelrod recorded just five outs in his last start and was tagged for 7 runs on 8 hits, including a homer. He did not walk or strikeout any Dodgers. Rob Segedin got him for a solo home run in the second inning, where all 7 runs were scored against him. Axelrod threw 43 pitches, 26 for strikes. He has completed five innings just one time this season.
